Questions regarding sound and amplification:

Q: What does the harp sound like?
A: Check out the Music & Video page for samples.

Q: How loud is the harp? Will it be heard at my event? Will it be too loud for conversations at my party to be heard?
A: The harp is generally loud enough to carry in most homes, churches, and public spaces. The harp on its own is never overpowering, which makes it perfect for background music.

Q: Can the harp be amplified if it is needed?
A: If your group or the space is exceptionally large, I can be easily amplified either with my own portable amplifier or my harp is equipped to be plugged into most any existing PA system.

Visit my blog for more information on amplification and the harp.

Questions regarding performance locations:

Q: Will the harp fit in my event location? How much space is needed?
A: Harps fit easily at most event sites. I need a space that is approximately 4x4 feet in order to perform comfortably.

Q: What types of locations work for the harp? How difficult is the harp to move to the site?
A: The harp is heavy (about 80 pounds) and an awkward shape, which calls for certain requirements with regard to location. In general, any location that is wheelchair accessible will work. If there are more than a few steps or a staircase, or a long distance from the loading area to the event site, assistance will need to be provided.

Q: My event is outdoors; can harp be used?
A: The harp is a very delicate instrument, and therefore needs to be protected from the elements. Harp can be used outdoors, but only under these specific conditions:

  • The harp must be in a completely shaded area.
  • The harp must be protected from the elements (no direct sun, high winds, drizzle, or mist)
  • No extreme heat (to protect the instrument) or cold (so my hands will still be able to move)
  • The harp needs to be on a level, hard, flat, and stable surface. Either wood or pavement will work well, not lawns or dirt paths.

Visit my blog for more information on outdoor locations.

Questions regarding weddings:

Q: When does the harp play in the wedding ceremony?
A: I will be playing prelude music for about 15-20 minutes as guests are being seated, then for the processional and recessional.

Q: How many pieces do I need to choose for my wedding ceremony?
A: You will need 3 pieces of music: one for the processional (bridal party), one for the brides’ entrance, and one for the recessional. Any additional music for the ceremony (such as the unity candle lighting or special solo performance) may also be chosen. Any choices for ceremony can also be left up to the harpist, if that is preferred. Visit my blog for more information on music selections for weddings.

Q: Can I request specific musical selections?
A: Of course! Check out my Repertoire page to see if your special song is listed. If it is not listed, I may still have it, just ask me! I can also track down specific titles and get the music in time for your wedding in most cases.

Q: Can the harp be used after the ceremony?
A: Yes. The harp is perfect for a cocktail hour, or if you want something more intimate for dinner music.
